Early Life & Lineage
Amy Worth was baptised on 28 May 1676 at Walkhampton Church (🔒Walkhampton Parish Composites Register 1674–1768, Plymouth & West Devon Record Office).
She was the daughter of Nicholas Worth (1655–1699) and his wife Mary. Crucially, Amy is the only child of Nicholas and Mary whose connection is directly confirmed through surviving parish baptism registers.
Land Tenancy & The Three-Lives System
According to research performed by Mike Brown of Dartmoor Press, Amy plays a prominent role in tracing the Worth family’s property holdings across Dartmoor through manor rent records:
- Lether Tor Farm (Michael’s Lease): She was originally named under her maiden name as a designated “life” on the lease held by her brother, Michael Worth, for a moiety (a half-share) of Leather Tor Farm.
- Lether Tor Farm (William’s Lease): By 1740, manor rent records list her under her married name, Amy Creber, as a named life on her husband William Creber’s moiety of the same property.
During this period, her brothers Michael and Nicholas were also established tenants at the neighbouring Stenlake Farm.
Marriage & Family
On 2 November 1714, Amy married William Creber at Walkhampton Church (🔒Walkhampton Parish Marriages and Banns Register, Plymouth & West Devon Record Office).
Parish records show that Amy and William had no children (Walkhampton Parish Birth Records 1674–1768).
Death & Burial
Amy was buried at Walkhampton on 14 July 1758 (🔒Walkhampton Parish Burials Register, Plymouth & West Devon Record Office).
Her husband William survived her by nearly fourteen years until his burial on 6 April 1772.
