Early Life
Richard Henry Worth was born on 1st November 1893 in the parish of Walkhampton. He was the son of George Worth (1839–1900) and his wife Margaret Worth (née Symons), who were resident at the Old Vicarage, Yeo Farm, Sheepstor, at the time of his birth. (🔒England & Wales Births 1837-2006)
Richard is my mother’s grandfather and father to my Great Aunt Doreen, who performed much of the family history research presented on this website. Although my mother never met her grandfather, having been born in the 1960s, family members shared memories of him which she remembers.

Marriage & Railway Career
On 17th February 1916, Richard married Annie Elsie Harris at Walkhampton Church. At the time of their marriage, his occupation was listed as a porter with the Great Western Railway. (🔒Devon Marriages, Plymouth & West Devon Record Office)
Sometime between their wedding and 1918, Richard moved to Plymouth, leaving his wife and children with their grandparents on the Harris side at Walkhampton. He subsequently appears in the National Union of Railwaymen registration records as a shunter. Richard and Annie had three children:
Family account notes that Richard was involved in an industrial accident while shunting at work, which unfortunately resulted in the amputation of one of his legs.
Death & Burial
His wife Annie passed away in September 1940 (🔒England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007), leaving Richard a widower until his death on 7th December 1947 (🔒England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007).
